Whether you are looking for the classic 'bucket and spade' holiday, or a relaxing golfing holiday, Wentworth House will not disappoint. Large enough to sleep two to three families, this comfortable house is situated on the north-east coast of Scotland right next to Portmahomack golf course and just two minutes from the fine sandy beach and safe bathing.
Built in 1802 as the Manse to Tarbat Church (now an Archaeological Discovery Centre and site of a Pictish Monastery of the 8th century thought to be as important in its day as the settlement on Iona), Wentworth House is a large, well-appointed holiday home in a coastal location hard to beat. The house is south facing across rolling countryside.
A five-minute walk from your holiday home will bring you to a hotel, pub and local shop, also the renowned 'Oystercatcher' restaurant, which specialises in seafood dishes using local, freshly-caught produce.
A three-mile walk out to Tarbat Ness Lighthouse (third tallest in Scotland), where magnificent sea views can be enjoyed, makes a pleasant evening stroll with the chance to observe dolphins which pass through this stretch of water occasionally.
Golfers of all abilities can enjoy a game, from the professional at Royal Dornoch or Tain, to, for the less ambitious, Portmahomack golf course which is very close to the house. Walk out of the house and onto the course.
Birdwatchers, at different times of the year, can hope to see: redwings, fieldfares, manx and sooty shearwaters, gannets, auks, terns, dippers, grey wagtails, tree creepers, wood warblers, buzzards, skuas, siskins, goldcrests, ospreys, peregrines, hen harriers, knotts, dunlins, whooper swans, lapwings, mute swans and many, many more!
The accommodation itself is comfortable and homely and is set in a 2-acre garden, which includes a large walled area that is grassed and ideal for ball games.
The owner has striven to make this an easy house to holiday in with children and has provided toys and games, teddies and dolls to ensure that children feel welcome.
Inverness airport is only an hour's drive and there is a railway station at Tain which is a 15-minute drive.
For those wishing to see more of the Highlands, the north coast, Orkney and the west coast are all within day trip distance.
The owner occupies an adjacent flat but is careful to ensure that you enjoy maximum privacy and minimum disturbance. She does not wish you to feel restricted in any way.
Catering can be arranged from full week meals to the occasional one-off dinner. Cooks will find the flourishing herb garden useful in food preparation.
